Breadsticks shaped like snakes are a enticing addition to your Halloween party bites. Or a fun snack you can make in the kitchen with the help of your little ones. These are the only snakes I don’t get creeped out by. Little prep is required as the recipes uses a pre-made refrigerated pizza dough. With a little shaping and a sprinkling of ingredients you’ll slithering these into your mouth in no time!
Before you start, measure out your toppings- poppy seeds, sesame seeds, and shredded Italian cheese blend. Cut your olives into small triangles to be used for snake eyes. It will be helpful to grease your chopsticks in advance as well. This will prevent the breadsticks from sticking to them while baking. I used disposable chopsticks for this because I had a ton sitting in my drawer from various Asian takeout.
To form the snakes, you will cut your pre-made pizza dough into long strips. They get their cool spiral shake when you wrap them along the greased chopstick. Make sure to leave room on both ends to make the snake’s head and tail. The next step is to brush them with olive oil to ensure your topping stick. Sprinkle the sesame seeds on the tail and the poppy seeds and cheese on the body. Lastly, you’ll place the olive triangles on the head to make the snake’s.
As you make each snake breadstick, you will place them on parchment lined baking sheets. You will want to use two to give them plenty of room to bake. In an oven preheated to 350 degrees F, bake the breadsticks until they are golden brown. When the chopsticks are cool to the touch, gently remove them from your snakes. Serve the breadsticks warm with your favorite store bought or homemade marinara sauce!
