A Day in Old Town Alexandria

I recently had to take a business trip to DC and Virginia. Usually on my work trips I am always on the go. I always have high hopes of getting to explore each city while I am there. However, with the little down time I have, I spend in my hotel room catching up on work or trying to rest. Last week was different. I had a long week in both Texas and the VA/DC so I made sure to have some “treat yo’self time” before flying back home.

After visiting a client in Alexandria, I pulled up my handy dandy Yelp app to find a place to visit for lunch. Quite a few places popped up in Old Town Alexandria. Now that I had nailed down an area, I had to figure out what to eat. The challenge was that I didn’t want a burger and fries or a sandwich. That’s when I came across The Majestic on Yelp. They had a solid 4/5 stars, plenty of reviews and after glancing at a few food photos, I was sold!

I sat at the bar and had a glass of Pinot Grigio. After all, it was a Friday and I would be flying back to Atlanta in just a few hours. From there I ordered a nibble, a starter and a large plate. I did say I wanted to treat myself, didn’t I? Every dish was beyond delicious and the service was top notch.

After lunch, I was feeling great. The weather was beautiful outside and I still had a little bit of time to kill so I decided to walk around Old Town a bit. I recalled passing by a chocolate shop while looking for parking so that is where I headed next.

I took a stroll down the street to Bluprint Chocolatiers. They make artisanal chocolates onsite with a small selection of bars from other quality, unique chocolate makers. I am not a huge sweets person but keeping with the theme of “treat yo’self” I decided to purchase some their dark chocolate confections and bars. I got a few options so that I could share it with a fellow dark chocolate lover back home.

With just a little more time to spare, I walked down a few more blocks enjoying the weather and admiring all of the shops and boutiques along the way. There definitely seemed to be something for everyone. I turned around to head back to my rental and made the impulsive decision to quickly stop into Alexandria Cupcake.

Alexandria Cupcake bakes their cupcakes daily using premium ingredients. I swear I am totally not a sweets person but I couldn’t leave without taking 1… or 2 back home. I opted for ones that wouldn’t be so sweet (see, I’m really not a sweets person). I went with the Dark Chocolate Vanilla and Guinness (they offered a pro tip- chill this one in the fridge and eat cold). I had them box those babies up and I was off to the airport.

I only spent a couple of hours in Old Town Alexandria. I am sure I only got an inkling of what is has to offer. But from what I did experience, I really enjoyed it! I would love to come back and get to explore more. The area has such a relaxed, laid back vibe which is just what I was looking for. With a wide range of restaurants, shops and entertainment it wouldn’t be hard to find something to suit your preferences.

Thank you Old Town Alexandria for sending me off in a much more relaxed state then when I arrived. I hope to see you again soon!
