When people think of Georgia, I am pretty positive they do not think of wine. Coca Cola? Absolutely. Peaches? Sure! But wine? Ehhhhh, not so much. I will admit that up until a few years ago I had no idea that Georgia had vineyards and wineries. Earlier this year, I got a little taste of what North Georgia wineries had to offer on a day visit with a friend. Just last month, I had the opportunity to take part in an exclusive North Georgia Wine Tour with Dining Out Atlanta.
Dining Out Atlanta gathered a small group of Atlanta based bloggers/ifluencers and may a day trip to tour 5 wineries and vineyards in the cities of Dahlonega and Cleveland. You may be asking yourself, “But how did you get there? Surely no one drove if they were partaking in all that wine, right?” Have no fear! We had transportation provided by The Vino Van. The Vino Van, founded by the lovely Billie Harris, provides premiere wine tour experiences in Georgia with pickup and drop offs in the Metro Atlanta area. So we made it to each destination safely and comfortably!
Montaluce Winery is simply beautiful. The view from the terrace is just breathtaking. Montaluce open to the public but also host private events and weddings on site. They appeared to be a fairly popular weekend brunch spot and I can totally see why!
We had the privilege of taking a tour and learning about the wine making process (including challenges of growing grapes in Georgia). We then got to the best part- sampling 5 of their wines along with some of the restaurant menu items. It was hard for us to leave but we had 4 more wineries on our itinerary and lots of wine left to drink!
Accent Cellars is a micro urban winery in Dahlonega whose wine is made from fruit sourced from Georgia, Texas, California and other states in the country. Their flights feature a variety of 10 wines. Although they don’t have a full food menu, they do offer a selection of cheese, meats and chocolates. You are also welcome to BYOF (Bring Your Own Food).
The tasting room has some cool artwork. They have a small storefront where you can purchase prints of the artist’s work. Oh, and make sure you look for the super cute and super sweet winery dog!
Kaya wines are made from grapes grown on the estate. They have a spacious tasting room and large patio with beautiful views of their vineyard and North Georgia. They host a number of events and have live musical entertainment regularly. No outside food is allowed but they do have a dining menu with light lunch offerings.
Dahlonega Resort and Vineyard is the perfect way to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. They have 23 rooms and cabins available to reserve with onsite amenities like a full service restaurant, spa, labyrinth and more.
We sampled their new line of wine, Twisted Sisters, and a few new dinner menu items which were so delicious (aerated pumpkin soup, foie gras custard, and a cast iron vegan dish). To end our visit, we toured the property and got to see first hand all the resort has to offer.
We ended our wine tour with the breathtaking views of CeNita Vineyards in Cleveland. There was so something so serene and comforting about CeNita. It was the best place to wrap up our North Georgia visit.
CeNita is a family owned farm winery offering handcrafted estate wines. Their tasting room is just 4 years old opening in 2015. Their hospitality truly makes you feel like you are a welcome guest in their home.
We only got to visit 5 of several wineries and vineyards in North Georgia. If this is what you have to look forward to then I suggest you checking some of them out. It is a great way to take a break from the hustle & bustle of the city. Or if you are planning a trip to Atlanta, it is a great addition to your itinerary (it is less than an hour and a half outside of the city and Vino Van will help you get there). So grab some friends and enjoy the some delicious wine!
