April is when we see back to back events in Atlanta. Art is a major part of the Atlanta culture so you will see several events involving visual arts, performing arts, and music. However, I have noticed an increase in events focused on wine. I’m not just talking about wine festivals or tasting events. One can find a range of wine focused events from themed tastings in a casual setting to a more formal affair in adorned settings.
I admit that these vino centered events popping up on my radar could be related to my own personal enthusiasm for wine. I definitely consider myself a novice on the topic, but I love to learn. Discovering new and complex flavors and varieties among other people who share this common interest is always an enjoyable time. Plus, sipping a good wine just makes me happy. I mean it does increase the release of dopamine and serotonin in our brain so who wouldn’t want more of that?
In the sea of April events in the city, I want to highlight a few where wine is the star of the show. Learning about wine doesn’t be intimidating. You don’t need to be a wine connoisseur to attend a pairing event. Sometimes it’s just about immersing yourself in the tasting experience, connecting with others, and having a good time. I’m stating the obvious, but these events are for folks 21+ in age. If that’s you, then read on to find out what three wine events caught my eye.

Winos in Onesies is a unique option for a fun and relaxing night out with friends. If you love movies, love wine and want something different to do on a Friday night then this is for you. This event is a movie night with themed wine pairings. Small munchies that are also themed and paired will also be provided. Onesies and PJs are encouraged, but not required. Dress in what makes you feel comfortable.
There is a catch though. You won’t know the movie or the pairings until the night of. You’ll have to trust them. I have yet to attend this event myself, but knowing what I know about the folks at The Oenophile Institute, you’ll likely be content with their choices. The goal is to chill out and have a good time, but there are a couple of rules. 1) Substitutions for the wine and munchies is not allowed. 2) Don’t post photos on social media unless you get permission from the attendees. 3) Drink responsibly. Now grab your onesie, your fave blankie or pillow, and enjoy the show and sips!

Did someone say party? Kitty Dare and Highland Fine Wines have come together for this Pinot Party. It is a coursed dinner pairing featuring award winning Bruliam Wines. Guests can look forward to 4 courses and 6 wines. I don’t know about you, but I like the way that’s mathing! If that doesn’t draw you in then take a peek at the menu because it sounds absolutely delicious!
The dinner will be held at Kitty Dare in Inman Park. It will start as many events should, with welcome bubbles. Expect to be greeted with Sparkling White, followed by a Chardonnay which is paired with the first course. From there comes courses two and three along with the main attraction, the Pinots. Kerith Overstreet of Bruliam Wines will be there herself to present the wines and share her amazing story. This is your chance to taste and learn about wines directly from the winemaker. RSVP for this event through Highland Fine Wines via email. You will then be sent a link to complete payment which will reserve your spot. I already have my seat saved so I hope to see you there!

Spring is in the air, and Wines for the Culture has teamed up with The Hip-Hop Somm (Christopher McLloyd) to celebrate the season. This Spring dinner will feature 5 courses with wine pairings. The menu is being curated by Chef Demetrius of Heritage Supper Club (named best pop-up by Atlanta Magazine in 2021). The event is being held on Earth Day and the cuisine will be Caribbean and Afro-American showcasing “the vibrancy of the diaspora in this new season”.
Guests won’t get the exact location until 48 hours prior to the event. They have given us one hint, and that is that it’s a private space in a restored historic building. I appreciate that they are keeping with the theme, by having the first course and cocktail hour in the garden. Guests will then be seated for courses two through five. This will be an intimate setting so tickets are limited. I have been waiting to attend an event with Wines for the Culture. This collaboration excites me, and not one I want to miss.
