Cheeseburgers but make them mini. These cheeseburger sliders come together quickly after a quick bake in the oven. These are great for game day eats, dinner for the family, or even a little one’s birthday party. Whatever the occasion, these handheld sliders are going to go fast. The recipe makes 12, but I can easily scarf down 5 myself so I suggest doubling or even TRIPLING the recipe.

The recipe calls for some of your basic cheeseburger ingredients. You will use ground beef, onions, cheddar cheese, and pickles. It all comes together on Hawaiian rolls which are perfectly sized for sliders. The rolls are great on their own but will be kicked up a notch with garlic butter and a sprinkle of sesame seeds.

The only active cooking you will be doing is browning the ground beef with the onions. And from there it is just a matter of assembly and baking. By putting the sliders in the oven you’re allowing the cheese to melt and helping that garlic butter seep into the Hawaiian rolls. Since it is a cheeseburger, I recommend two layers of cheese (because why not?). One on the top and one on the bottom. This will ensure your cheese gets maximum coverage on the sliders.

You can make substitutions, if needed. If you don’t eat red meat then use ground turkey. Onions not your thing? You are welcome to skip them. If you prefer American cheese then go for it! Although I love these as is, make them to suit your taste.

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Add olive oil to a large skillet on medium heat. Add onion and cook until they begin to turn translucent.
  • Add ground beef and make sure to break up the meat as it cooks. Season mixture with salt, pepper and garlic powder. Remove from heat when the meat is no longer pink and cooked through.
  • Carefully drain any excess fat from the pan.
  • Cut the Hawaiian rolls in half lengthwise. Place bottom half on a buttered baking sheet.
  • Place 5 cheese slices in a single layer on the bottom half of the buns (you will need to split 1 slice in half to make them fit properly). Layer the ground beef evenly on top of the cheese. Add the pickles on top (eyeball to where each slider will have about 2 pickles). Using the remaining 5 cheese slices, place one more layer of cheese on top of the beef. Add to top of the halved buns on top of the sliders.
  • Stir the minced garlic into the melted butter. Brush the roll tops with the garlic butter and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  • Bake for approximately 12 minutes or until the cheese is melted.
  • Cut the rolls along the edges horizontally and vertically to divide the sliders. Serve warm.
