If you live in Atlanta and haven’t at least heard about Kamayan ATL, you may be living under a rock. Kamayan ATL is a family run business that hosts Filipino food pop-ups and provides catering in the Metro Atlanta area. Being half Filipino myself and from the Philippines, I love their passion for bringing Filipino culture and cuisine into the city.
On Saturday, June 15th Kamayan ATL partnered with Candy from SoupBelly to host a Baos and Beer pop-up at Lazy Betty This is a collaboration many of us local foodies have been waiting for. It did not disappoint!
The a la carte menu featured various baos, siu mai, ribs and beer. I mean it wouldn’t be a Baos and Beer pop-up with out the beer! Am I wrong? They even offered a dessert bao which I could not resist.
I made the mistake of showing up a couple hours after the start time. (In my defense, I was in the pool and just struggled to get myself out of the water on this particularly warm Saturday). Due to my tardiness, they were already sold out of a few items. I missed out on the coconut shrimp, fried chicken and ulang baos. Lesson learned. But I was still able to get my fill of the other tasty items on the menu. I tried the following:
The food was ridiculously good. For realz. You wouldn’t think that they prepared these dishes OUTSIDE sharing a couple of burners. Bless their sweet, talented hearts for toughing out the heat to bring us these delish bites. Their efforts were well worth the wait in line.
If you haven’t checked out their pop-ups, you need to change that. Like ASAP! Soupbelly is relatively new to the pop-up game, but I am sure this won’t be the last you see of her! Kamayan ATL is taking a little break from pop-ups to focus on catering and other things. They will be back in July though! Mark your calendars for July 14th. They will be hosting a Kamayan dinner (think communal dining where eating with your hands in encouraged!) at a mano in Old 4th Ward.
You can also follow them on Instagram (@soupbelly_atl @kamayan_atl) to stay up to date! I hope to see you at an event soon. π
